LAKE MARTIN Lake Martin is located in east central Alabama about 40 miles northeast of Montgomery. This Alabama Power Company reservoir encompasses 39,100 acres and has more than 700 miles of shoreline. Bass fishing is very popular at Lake Martin. The fishery is dominated by spotted bass with lesser numbers of largemouth bass. This lake has an excellent reputation for winter bass fishing, when the spotted bass school more than at other times of the year. Other fish spcies include; striped bass, white bass, black crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish and flathead catfish. A State record white crappie was caught in April of 2000 from the main channel of the Tallapoosa around Alex City. The best crappie fishing is in upstream areas of the lake, particularly around Wind Creek State Park and in Elkahatchee Creek. |
